Titanium Bar Production Methods

grade 5 titanium round bars are produced from titanium ingots which are melted and cast into shapes. The main methods for producing titanium bars are vacuum arc remelting (VAR) and electron beam melting (EBM). In VAR, a consumable electrode of titanium is melted in a vacuum and dripped into a mold to solidify. This process refines the chemistry and removes impurities. EBM similarly melts titanium wire feedstock in a vacuum using an electron beam as the heat source. EBM offers more precise control of the solidification process. Secondary processing such as hot rolling, forging, and extrusion can be used to form titanium ingots into bars. Proper processing is critical to achieve the desired titanium bar properties.
