Manufacturing Processes for Grade 1 Titanium Plate

Grade 1 Pure Titanium Sheet starts as ingots of commercially pure titanium that are then processed into mill products. There are several manufacturing processes used to make grade 1 titanium plate:

Forging - The titanium ingot is heated and pressed into shape between massive dies. This produces titanium blocks, billets, or slabs. Forging results in significant grain flow that improves strength capabilities.

Rolling - The forged titanium slabs are passed through successive rolling stands to reduce thickness and elongate the slab into a plate. Rolling improves strength by introducing directional properties.

Annealing - To relieve residual stresses from previous processing, titanium plates are annealed by heating and then slowly cooling. Annealing also maximizes ductility and machinability.

Pickling - Oxide scale and surface contaminants are removed by pickling titanium plates in hot acidic baths. This cleans and smoothens the surfaces.

Edge Conditioning - Plate edges are trimmed, squared, and deburred. This prepares the edges for machining and welding.

Inspection - Nondestructive testing methods like ultrasonic, eddy current, and x-ray inspection ensure there are no flaws in the final product.

The combination of these processes produces a grade 1 titanium plate with a pristine surface, tight dimensional tolerances, and optimized mechanical properties ready for fabrication. Strict quality control ensures the grade 1 titanium plate meets the highest standards.
